Clal (still from video)2022-2024. one-channel video, 40'00''.

Shopping malls are typically designed with multiple entrances distributed around the building to allow easy access from any direction (a principle of commercial architecture intended to maximize flow and accessibility).

Clal was filmed at various entrances of the Clal Center in Jerusalem. Built in the early 1970s, Clal Center was Israel’s first indoor shopping mall. The work consists of a mobile setup: a camera on a tripod and a blinding LED light that shifts between different entrances - physical and symbolic thresholds. This mechanism is adjacent to each security station, creating an extension to the checkpoint. Visitors entering or exiting the building are invited to pass through the filming setup and face the glaring light.

“The video portrait contains a variety of identities and gazes staring at the light as if witnessing a celestial occasion, a gateway to another dimension, or a prophecy materializing before their very eyes. They stare at the bright light up to the point where they are no longer able to, or otherwise decide to give up” (Written by Assaf Hinden)
