As a form of seeing, staring exists between observation and blindness. It can refer to dreamy, unfocused moments, as well as to states of trauma and shock. The detachment from time and space during the act of staring creates a fragile-liminal state, accompanied by a release of muscular tension.

The Starers was filmed in various locations around the ‘Davidka’ light-rail station in Jerusalem. Anonymous passersby were invited to stare directly into a blinding light until they were no longer able to continue.
